   LAB' GUEST COLUMN _ grooppo.org_ CASA G+S

The project CASA G+S is a house refurbisment designed by the Italian studio in 2011.

''The procedure consists in the recovery of one of the three floors of a single family house built in 1870 in Albissola Marina. A project based on memory, which aims to bring out the peculiarities of the original building. The paving design mimics the original one: different colors for the unglazed porcelain hexagonal tiles define the sequence of rooms, emphasizing the continuity of spaces. Container walls define spaces in the new subdivision where individual pieces of furniture belonging to the history of the families of the two owners, interact with other recovered objects reinterpreted with a contemporary vocation.''

about*mainly 2d and 3d data processors*

'' begins as a collective container of all the natural individualities of the associated subjects, a connection born outside of the rooms of the Genova University's Faculty of Architecture. The choice of the palindrome, citing the web and Stereolab, shows the will to act on the line between architecture and communication, between social perception of objects and individual identification through technologies, always working on multimedial projects. More than a mere wordplay it is a program of purposes, playful and plural like the vision of the world that the five members, out of thirteen initial ones, have.

The design process, conscious of the state of the contemporaneity of the multiple scales of the objects, derives from a constant dialogue with the clients: since the development of the first idea, a continuous relation is seeked and built. Taking part in architectural competitions for collective buildings, schools and public spaces, as much as developing small handmade businesses identity, always pursues the complete design vision in his complexity.''

Karl Lagerfeld, design photographer for Cassina

Teaser picture of the serie to come - Photo By Olivier Saillant

Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic fashion designer, is less known for his work as a photographer. Yet, over the last 25 years, he shot for fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazar and worked on advertising campains for Chanel and the brands he owns: Fendy and his eponymous label.

This is however the first time that Lagerfeld collaborates with a furniture brand for a photographic project. Ever since it was established in 1927, the Italian company Cassina has been a preeminent design leader and manufacturer of original contemporary furniture.

“The originality of the project lies in a selection of furniture from the Cassina collections that is placed under the sharp eye of Karl Lagerfeld. Not only a legendary fashion designer, illustrator, publisher and photographer, Lagerfeld is also passionate about contemporary design, and this project testifies Cassina’s commitment to working side-by-side with the most talented individuals from both the 20th and 21st centuries.” Gianluca Armento – Brand Director Cassina

Historical and contemporary pieces, including objects and furniture by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit T. Rietveld, Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Jean-Marie Massaud, Piero Lissoni and Rodolfo Dordoni, will thus to be (re)discovered through the eyes of the talented and mysterious designer.

The presentation of this work, the first step in a series of cultural activities born from the unique collaboration between Karl Lagerfeld and Cassina, is to be seen in exclusivity at Cassina’s Paris showroom from January 31st to March 10th 2013.
