Karl Lagerfeld, design photographer for Cassina

Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic fashion designer, is less known for his work as a photographer. Yet, over the last 25 years, he shot for fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazar and worked on advertising campains for Chanel and the brands he owns: Fendy and his eponymous label.

This is however the first time that Lagerfeld collaborates with a furniture brand for a photographic project. Ever since it was established in 1927, the Italian company Cassina has been a preeminent design leader and manufacturer of original contemporary furniture.

“The originality of the project lies in a selection of furniture from the Cassina collections that is placed under the sharp eye of Karl Lagerfeld. Not only a legendary fashion designer, illustrator, publisher and photographer, Lagerfeld is also passionate about contemporary design, and this project testifies Cassina’s commitment to working side-by-side with the most talented individuals from both the 20th and 21st centuries.” Gianluca Armento – Brand Director Cassina

Historical and contemporary pieces, including objects and furniture by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit T. Rietveld, Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Jean-Marie Massaud, Piero Lissoni and Rodolfo Dordoni, will thus to be (re)discovered through the eyes of the talented and mysterious designer.

The presentation of this work, the first step in a series of cultural activities born from the unique collaboration between Karl Lagerfeld and Cassina, is to be seen in exclusivity at Cassina’s Paris showroom from January 31st to March 10th 2013.
